Yesterday Lenovo announced the IdeaPad U350, G550 notebook, and all-in-one IdeaCentre C300 personal computers. These go hand-in-hand with the IdeaPad S12 netbook and are an attempt to fill out the struggling brand’s consumer offerings.
IdeaPad U350
The IdeaPad U350 is one of the new “in-between” CULV (Consumer Ultra Low Voltage) notebooks designed to fill the void between full notebooks and netbooks (was there really a void to begin with?). This is a 13.3-inch thin & light machine, weighing 3.5 lb at about an inch thin. CPU options consist of Intel’s Pentium SU2700 (1.3GHz) chip and a speedier Core Solo SU3500 (1.4GHz).
Every other possible feature you want is checked off on the U350: 2-8GB RAM, up to 500GB storage, two Intel GMA graphics options (although I don’t know why you’d want the one that is slower & doesn’t decode HD), webcam, WiFi & Bluetooth, ethernet, and HDMI output. Four and eight cell batteries will be available, with up to four and ten hours of battery life respectively. The real kicker? Prices starting at $649.
Lenovo G550
This machine is a spin-off of the now defunct “Lenovo 3000″ models and joins the uber-plain G500. The G550 is a bit more modern with a 15.6-inch LCD, Intel Core 2 Duo processor, WiFi/Bluetooth/Ethernet, up to 4GB RAM, and up to 320GB storage. Some surprising standard features include an integrated number pad on the keyboard, DVD burner, and HDMI output. You will have a choice of Intel integrated or NVIDIA GeForce G105M graphics and no choice with your six cell battery. Pricing starts at $599.
IdeaCentre C300
A low cost cousin to the sexy IdeaCentre A600 all-in-one touch PC, the C300 is another all-in-one done on a budget. The more powerful, power hungry, and costly Intel Core 2 components have been replaced with a distant cousin, the Atom netbook platform. An Atom 230 chip and integrated graphics power the 20-inch LCD with 1-2GB RAM, up to 640GB storatge, ethernet, optional WiFi, webcam, Firewire, 6 USB 2.0 ports, and a 6-in-1 card reader. Despite being budget built, the C300 is very stylish and only 2.2-inches thin. Heck, if it has the proper mounting holes you could hang this on your wall like a regular LCD TV – quite tempting indeed, especially with a $449 price tag.
It was a busy day for Lenovo and even more stuff is coming out soon. Stay tuned for more announcements and analysis from your pals at LogicThinkPad.
