I know some are anxiously awaiting the return of the new ThinkPad T410s to Lenovo’s website, but I just wanted to send a reminder that the closeouts are still going on at the Microsoft Store.
The 40% off coupon is still in effect and you can snag a nicely loaded T400s for $929 or an X301 for $959. One of our readers even chimed in on the X301 he purchased from the Microsoft Store, so check out their comment if you were considering a purchase.
Head over to the original post for all the deal details and helpful user comments
We interrupt your regularly scheduled weekend for this important announcement: the closeouts on “last generation” Lenovo PCs continue and today we bring you two awesome deals.
The Microsoft Store sells Windows PCs directly and thus has a stock of Lenovo’s previous products which are now being marked down 40%. A well loaded ThinkPad T400s is going for $929, while the normally $1600+ ThinkPad X301 is only $959. The T400s is the same one we featured last week for $1161, so you can now save more than another $100 on this beast.
You can check out the full specs of each machine below, but notice that both use a 1.8-inch 5400rpm 120GB hard drive. With this low of a price you may want to spring for an SSD, even with a nearly $500 Intel 160GB you still come out cheaper than a comparable model new from Lenovo.
If these two models don’t tickle your fancy, a number of other “last generation” PCs are 40% off through the Microsoft Store for a limited time. Browse them here.

ThinkPad T400s 2801-AQU $929 after 40% coupon
Core 2 Duo SP9400 2.4GHz; 4GB DDR2; 120GB Hard Drive; DVD+/-RW
DisplayPort; eSATA; 6-cell battery; 2MP webcam; 3.91 lbs; Windows 7
If you are interested in an SSD, you can view all the latest deals on SSDs at LogicBuy by clicking here. The new Intel drives are a safe bet for maximum performance for your dollars, but I recommend Anandtech’s latest article on SSD for a good overview of the latest drives in the market.
MS Signature PCs
One last thing to remember about these models is they are Microsoft “Signature PCs,” meaning they have almost no third party software installed and a more streamlined first-setup experience. You also get 90 days of software support from Microsoft, handy for the person who isn’t very familiar with Windows.
Lenovo has been busy announcing a ton of new and refreshed models, including the latest ThinkPad T410s. You can read all about the changes in the T410s here, which will tell you that it’s just new processors and NVIDIA graphics.
For a significant cost savings, you can pick up a pre-configured ThinkPad T400s directly through the Microsoft Store. Not only is the T400s well equipped, especially for a price $200 below the base price of a T400s from Lenovo, but it is a “Microsoft Signature PC,” meaning you have little to no crapware to deal with.
This particular model (2801-AQU) normally runs $1,549, but Microsoft is running a limited time 25% off coupon that brings the price down to $1,161.75 with free shipping. You can wait for the T410s to go on sale later this week, but a comparable system will run you quite a bit more coin since it is a new model and won’t be discounted.
This deal is only expected to last a few more days, so don’t wait if you’ve been eying a T400s.
Lenovo’s ThinkPad T400s is the latest T Series model and the most advanced. The redesigned chassis is thinner, lighter, and still has all the T Series functionality you love. I really liked the T400s in my review and still prefer to use it over my X61 when I can’t be at a desk. The LCD really is amazing and it has plenty of horsepower to get the job done.
Right now Lenovo is taking $146 off instantly plus an additional 20% stackable coupon that brings the entry price down to $1279 for the base model. The 120GB 1.8-inch 5400rpm hard drive is standard, but for only $40 you can move to the 64GB SSD. If you don’t need the capacity, I highly recommend the SSD – it makes the T400s experience really amazing. Plus of course you get Windows 7 preloaded now, complete with Lenovo’s Enhanced Experience.
You can even choose from the T400s multitouch, with multitouch LCD that provides a cool experience with the Windows 7 touch pack and Lenovo’s unique SimpleTap program. T400s multitouch starts at $1599, check out my hands-on review here.
Base specs and details on how to get the deal below!
Core 2 Duo SP9400 2.4GHz; 14.1″ LED WXGA+; 2GB DDR3
I really liked the ThinkPad T400s and the subsequent model with a multitouch screen. The T400s really is a full-size notebook that is eminently portable thanks to a top-notch thin & light design, all without compromising features or functionality.
Lenovo is currently running a nice 15% coupon on all T400s models, including the new multitouch version, on top of a $166 instant discount. This brings the starting price of the regular T400s down to $1359, or $1699 for the multitouch version. Check out the base specs and details on the deal below; coupon expires October 5.
Microsoft and Intel recently demonstrated how Windows 7 stands to offer better battery life under certain usage scenarios than Vista, and they used a Lenovo ThinkPad T400s too.
Playing a DVD on two identical T400s’, the Windows 7 machine was drawing 15.6 watts while Vista bumped up to 20.5 watts. The benefit here will only be seen when you are actively using the machine, as Windows 7 have a “power coalescing” feature that lets one CPU core sleep as long as possible when it’s not needed.
Gizmodo also mentions that the next mobile chip from Intel will be able to execute two threads per core, improving the multi-tasking performance of both cores and possibly allowing for more situations when the 2nd core can be powered down.
It’s another glorious Friday here at LogicThinkPad HQ and I wanted to leave our faithful readers with a couple hot deals for the weekend. Without further ado:

Lenovo ThinkPad T400s: 15% off coupon
I really liked the T400s in my review and have been using it a lot lately, loving it even more every day. It really is a great primary computer with an LCD with enough size, pixels, and image quality that you don’t need an external display when sitting at the desk. You also get plenty of horsepower and features in a very thin and light chassis.

Got questions about the ThinkPad T400s? Read our review, or where we compared it to the ThinkPad T400 and then the ThinkPad X301. Search the site at the top right corner or browse all posts relating to the T400s, chances are we’ve answered your question. If not, ask it in the comments!
We recently took a look at how the svelte new ThinkPad T400s compared to its chunkier cousin the T400. Today we have an in-depth comparison of the T400s with its true parent: the ThinkPad X301.
Lenovo’s ThinkPad X301, originally debuting with the X300 model, is the poster child for compromise of form and function, without compromising much. It weighs under 3 lb, is under 1 inch thin, and still hasĀ nearly every port or feature you might need and an integrated optical drive to boot. The ThinkPad T400 is more of an exercise in function before form, with a balance between form and cost kept closely in-check. What do you get when you combine them? A thin, light, truly full-size notebook with fewer compromises than the X301 and a better form than the T400, with a price somewhere inbetween.
This is the first of two articles where we will be comparing the ThinkPad T400s against the T400 and X301. Specifically we will be taking a look at the performance and usability of Lenovo’s new ThinkPad T400s compared to its two closests siblings: the “plain jane” T400 and the high end X301.
Lenovo’s ThinkPad T400s is an evolution of the ThinkPad lineup, and a successful at that. It adds just enough new features and changes to be progressive, without rattling the core fundamentals too much. Evolution is one word to describe it, but hybrid actually might be better. The T400s has more in common with the X301 than the regular T400, but we will discuss that in the T400s vs X301 article.
In case you’re unfamiliar with the regular ThinkPad T400, it is undoubtably the bread and butter of Lenovo’s ThinkPad lineup. It has the highest number of sales, the widest array of features, and for a long time the T Series were considered the flagship ThinkPads. I would argue the X300/X301 took that position over in early 2008, but this isn’t the place for that discussion.
