I travel with my 15" T60p, and it's very suitable for both the desk and the plane. it's a little big for the really tight planes, but it's unbeatable in terms of screen real estate, weight/performance ratio as well as that feeling of quality. However, if you get the 14" with the SXGA+ screen, it wou...

Latest charts. I managed to dig up a whole bunch of info from other threads, so around 20 more data points have been added. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d149/shirubia123/th_t60_shiptime_06-05-18_stagger.png http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d149/shirubia123/th_t60_shiptime_06-05-18.png The fir...

Ok folks. Don't hate me or anything, but my D7U shipped today. I ordered it on May 8th. 4 days to ship. This had been estimated to ship on June 2nd too. Awesome. Mine shipped today!!! Hopefully gets here soon. I initially ordered the D7U, but I wanted to get more screen real estate, so I just got t...

If you're looking for some colour, you should look at Crumpler bags . Since they give you the dimensions of their inner laptop carrying sleeves, you can easily evaluate whether your laptop (sticking out 9-cell and all) will fit in it. if you're into this type of look, go w/ the Timbuk2 - they are m...

I love my Timbuk2 messenger laptop bag (it's the classic, not a big fan of the other one). I like it because i bike everywhere, and it's UNBELIEVABLY stable when on a bike. It fits around your back, and is VERY slick. Also, the cross strap stabilizes it to a degree unavailable w/ a back pack. Overal...

Notes about the alleged superiority of the Thinkpad: 1) better warranty - not really. If you live in a city, like I do, there is probably an Apple Store near by (Chicago has several nearby), and they will fix your laptop or replace it ON THE SPOT - I got the 3 year extension, so I am covered for all...

Charles, thanks for sharing your experience. I remember around 5 years ago when I got my first IBM, and it was different then too. But no matter. I am still on order for the IBM, but I also bought an Apple MacBook Pro. I don't realyl want to wait another 3 weeks, as I need a faster machine pretty mu...

Charles, how did you order yours? I ordered mine on Feb 22nd, since then, my shipping date slipped innumerable times, right now it's 5/27/2006, I haven't received any of the things I bought along w/ the laptop, additionally, when I called TODAY, the guy on the phone said no one received their laptop...

at this point, the MBP looks like the better machine: tough exoskeleton, runs both OSX and XP Legally, all of the drivers work (except, inexplicably, the backlit keyboard, isight and one or two more - should work by the time this thing gets out of beta). The price is similar to that of t60p (some ca...

Andy, same exact experience. Couldn't tell me when, just that it would be "within 6-8 weeks from the date of order" - and today is EXACLY 6 weeks after. So I am sitting here, having ordered the machine on the 22nd, and waiting forever to get it, meanwhile, people are getting the DDUs left and right....

EVDO vs. EDGE
From what I understand, some time this year there will be another set of thinkpads with Cingular wireless connectivity built-in. When that will be, however, is still unknown. As far as EVDO vs. Edge - EVDO is tons faster - it's max potential speed is over 20 times faster than what you should expect ...

This is after they told me 1) they were going to be shipped this week 2) they were going to be shipped last week. A lot of applications can already use Dual Core, especially apps like AutoCAD and photoshop - as they are designed for multiprocessor machines from the get-go. There might not be the same type of improvement from one processor to two, but you should def. see the benefits of SMP at work almost immedi...

Norton Ghost is pretty good for that - it can output the image to a DVD-R or to an USB drive, and will allow you to simply create a boot-up sequence to re-image the new machine (if all of the devices are the same, you shouldn't have any issues). I would recommend the DVD-R option, since booting off ...

NJRonbo, you really need to think about what you're going to do with your laptop. Are you going to be carrying it around? Traveling with it? Dude, that's just not right. Dual core is ESPECIALLY great for application development, especially java. You see, java has the ability (like most higher-level languages) to manage threads outside of the general thread pool. Thus, for asynchronous tasks (whatever you wish those to be - like web servi...
