Re: Portable Drive Bay 2000 & Ubuntu 11.10
OK, This seems strange, but with this description, maybe, someone can figure it out. This Acer Aspire One NetBook running Ubuntu 11.10 does see the IBM USB Portable Drive Bay 2000 only if a SanDisk Cruzer USB stick is used in a different USB port. I tried USB devices with no built in logic and the O...

Portable Drive Bay 2000 & Ubuntu 11.10 Question
Can anyone help with some step by step how to? Story goes like this; I have this Acer Aspire One NetBook running Ubuntu 11.10 with no CD ROM drive. I just bought an Alpha AWUS036NHR USB Wifi antenna. The Linux drivers came on a CD. I have this USB Portable Drive Bay 2000 FRU 19K4499 that works great...

Re: Replacment battey
i seems like there are different types of 9 cell batteries 6.6, 7.2, 7.8 Amp/hr and I don't really understand how that could be. Batteries have discharge rates measured in Amp/hr. As the name suggests, it indicates how long the battery will last at a given a steady drain. My rule of thumb is to get ...

Yes.
I do mean the 3 plastic strips.
I'll take just the 3 strips and the very small screws that hold them in if that is what you have to offer.

I'm Looking for any Old TP CD ROMs
I want any old CD ROMs that fit in the 600 T2X to T3X laptops. I prefer ROMs that do not work. All I want off of them are the caddies.
I’m looking for someone that will give them to me and I’ll pay USPS flat rate shipping. Sooo, if you have 1 or 3 laying around gathering dust, how about it?

Re: Free stuff! Just pay USPS Flat Rate Shipping. Free stuff!
Thanks for the input.
I've been collecting this stuff for so long that I don't know where they all came from. I do know that if stuff doesn't work I toss it. So, all of this stuffed worked when it was pulled.
I do remember working on several T2x TPs. I thought some of this went on them also.

Re-check where the ribbon cables connect. Both the cable and the connector. Clean both real good. Let dry befroe assembling. If these are the only ones that do not work, does the rest of the computer work fine? After trying a couple times,Just use it. The LEDs are nice but for the price of the lapto...

Re: Linux problem on TP 600X
Sounds like an OS problem. Just to be sure, have you run a HD scan for any errors? Linux keeps all of its information on the HD and since you said that it all of a sudden started, it might be the HD. I was running Ubuntu 10.4 on a 240X and the DH controller went out. Took be for ever to figure it ou...

I've got a question for you cbhattarai. Why don't you run your XP programs in XP compatibility mode on W7? Does it not work for your programs? To get into Compat mode, right click on the program menu item or icon, select properties and the Compatibility tab. There you can select to run in XP / SP3 m...

Re: T420s mouse issue
Just guessing here but something you can look into. In the BIOS of the TPs there are docking set ups. However, much is done at boot time and when USB devices are attached. Since you have a wireless keyboard and mouse on the docking station, when you remove the TP from the dock, it doesn't always sin...

Re: Pulling Backlight CCFLs From Dead Displays
I tried some of what you are doing with the same amount of success. Many of the TP I worked on had one cold light at the left side and the plastic disperser. It seemed the edge of the disperser had to be cleaned real good so the max light would go into the disperser. This would allow as much light t...

Re: Vertical mount for mini dock?
hey bill - thanks a ton! so, when mounted vertically, you rely on the locking mechanism of the dock for it to not topple out (even though it's supported on the bottom by the 1x2), right? I might do something similar, but perhaps have a swing-arm to make sure that the laptop doesn't fall out. thanks...

I'll try to post some pictures. Know that the drawer rails are the sort that come on a computer rack (sort of). The kind that do not come apart easily and extend more than their original short length (see top picture). Fasten these to the back side of the board. cut the board to size. The weight of ...

I use to be an XP guy 100%. However now I really like 7 when I’m not using Ubuntu. Most of the stuff you mentioned 7 does well (better than Vista). What makes it better is the way it does DVDs and entertainment in general. There is a bunch built in to help with all of that. Since the new machines co...

I built one of these and used it for a couple of years. Took it down about 6 months ago. I don’t have any pictures. I had a full docking station but it would work with a port replicator. Maybe I can explain what I did. I purchased some drawer slides (2). I mounted some fiber board on them and put a ...

I boot to an Ubuntu 11.10 install disk -- I recently found out something about Ubuntu 11.10. When doing the install with ethernet installed, it doesn't install the WiFi drivers. However, when installing 11.10 with no ethernet attached, then everything installs OK (both ethernet and WiFi). This happ...

Re: W700 will not stay turned off
Just maybe this will fix.
Go into Power Management settings (network adapters) in Device Manager. Right click and select properties. Uncheck the "allow this device to wake the computer" box (on each item) individually, to see which one might be the culprit.
Hope this helps.

What errors do you get when trying to boot? What do you notice? When did it stop booting? What changed? Help u...

No telling what they do in the back room of the service department. After all, it is about time and money. How much time would it take to pop out the mobo and put in a new one vs trouble shoot one.
Just my thoughts.

Re: My "Old" thinkpad 701C is still working
It has been a long time. The battery can be replaced with any similar battery. The old battery should have a connector that snaps onto the mobo. The connector can be cut off from the battery and another battery spliced to the wires. Do all of this with the connector disconnected and pay attention to...
