U300s 13.3" "Mac Air" like, X301 like
The U300s is like the Mac Air 2011 13.3" or the X301 with a faster processor but for the fatal error of only using a 1366x766 16:9 panel instead of the Mac Air and X301 which both use the 1440x900 16:10 panel. The 1440x900 is far more desirable and it is baffling why Lenovo chose the lower resolutio...

X201s 1440x900, 8GB, 160GB SSD, extra 9-cell, USB to DVI adp
Thinkpad X201s with 8 GB RAM and 160 GB Intel X25-M SSD 2nd Generation (this is the most reliable SSD). Warranty expires 3/21/12 but is extendable with Lenovo if done before expiration date. Purchased late March 2011 and keyboard was replaced a couple of months ago. This is a 1440 x 900 display comp...

Mac Air 2011 trackpad vs. trackpoint
I'm curious if people have compared using the Mac Air 2011 Trackpad compared with using a Trackpoint. I have an X201s and may go to a Mac Air 2011 with dual boot for Windows (the new Air comes with up to 256 GB SSD). I can't for the life of me understand why Lenovo did not produce a similar machine,...

At this point best to do a fresh install which you can do with an integrated SP1 image. That is what I did.

Re: Positive feedback for FAIR Traders
I purchased an X201s from Steve Mugiri. It was purchased from Toronto, CA and arrived in New York, NY in two days on a Saturday by inexpensive express shipping. A frustration I have with some ebay sellers is that even with spending greater than $1000 as I was doing I could not get phone numbers. Ste...

Re: Intel X25-M 120GB problems !!
I had trouble with cloning to my SSD and gave up. It was a big waste of time.
Best to just build system from scratch.
I have an extra copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 which I purchased before getting a Thinkpad which came with Windows 7 if you wish to purchase it.

System update doesn't yet work for SP1 since SP1 has not been officially released but this is a fix until then. Note the suggestion that you only have to install the part relevent to your version: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2011/02/14/fix-thinkvantage-system-update-error-after-installing-windows-...

Re: Windows 7 64 bit -- Is it a no brainer on a Core 2 Duo?
Not certain you can purchase the 64-bit recovery disks. My machine came with 32-bit Windows 7 Pro and I installed my own version of Ultimate 64-bit fresh (but I also have SSD and it is important to do fresh install on SSD for alignment reasons). Just a couple of days ago I did the Win 7 Ultimate x64...

Wait for the 410s refresh (follow-on model) to start shipping and see if the specs are more to your liking. Newer refresh Lenovo models were announced in early Jan. Then either get the 410s refresh or save money getting the 410s.

Re: x200t UPGRADE time... Your thoughts
New version SSDs (25 nm from older 34 nm) were just released by Micron (and soon Intel) at CES 2011. I'd expect the prices to drop soon just as they did when the 50 nm was replaced with the 34 nm. I would do a fresh install on the SSD and play it safe. No point in taking chances. If you haven't purc...

Re: Has anyone owned an X201 without any problems?
I would wait for the "refresh" coming out soon (see a recent posting in www.thinkpads.com ). Alternatively wait for the refresh to come out and then purchase the X201 when the prices drop. I have had both the X200s and the X201s and they are really solid. There had been a problem in the X201s that c...

Power Usage Meter, Turn off Flash?
I run the task manager in minimized mode to show roughly how much CPU I am using, but I'd like something more specific that would tell me the current draw (like in the battery tab of the Power Manager). When the power draw is high, I go to task manager and notice the browser (e.g. internet explorer)...

Re: Any sign of a new 13" ThinkPad?
You can replace the optical drive in the T410s with a 3 cell battery which will increase the time from about 4 hours to 6 hours.. [You can do this with the T410 as well, so the 410s still doesn't have an advantage over the 410 in terms of battery life - which was my point. The point I was making is...

I think the X200s and X201s are more fragile than the X61s. 3 year accident coverage (for USA only) is about $170 as I recall.

Re: Any sign of a new 13" ThinkPad?
The t410s doesn't have the same win over the t410 that the x201s has over the x201 in terms of battery life, in part due to the inability to configure it with a 9 cell (x301 suffers from this as well). You can replace the optical drive in the T410s with a 3 cell battery which will increase the time...

$1360 for an X201s. This unit has basically everything including a 3 year warranty (recommended warranty). It does not include accident protection which for 3 years is another $170 or so. http://www.jr.com/lenovo/pe/LEN_514328U/ other places may have the discount as well. The units, like netbooks, d...

Re: X201 vs x200 vs X61s
As a previous owner of X61s and X200s current owner of X201s, the X61s is definately more durable than the later models. I'd go for the X200 if the money is that important (recall that if you're using the unit for five years, the price difference per year is not that much, esp. on a daily basis [$10...

Do a google search for 5143-28U which is the X201s type that I have which is a good value with a 3 year warranty. You should find it for around $1500.
If you're interested, you should be able to pick up a Intel X25-M 160 GB (150 usable) SSD for a little over $300 on ebay.

I would definately go with the X200. There is always a way to zoom the browser (at least IE8) and Word, etc. I do have external DVI monitors at home/work. I don't use the X200 base which is bulky for travel. Rather I use: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-72682.html the USB to DVI adap...
