I agree with Harry, my T23 doesn't show up in the database and I'm the one who opened the box it first came in.

Re: Problem with hard drive in Ultrabay on T43

With the drive inserted in the bay when you start the system and enter BIOS, or press F12, is the drive in recognised in the boot menu?
Do the drives you are using have hard drive passwords set on them?

Re: Lenovo may drop X30xl in favor of T410s

I'd sooner drop an X30* on the floor than a Sony Z. The Sony Z is a wonderfull system, but....... a little fragile, to say the least. Depending on what you're looking for the X30* may be better. It's a shame X30* has been discontinued, but there were so many complaints about it not being dockable, I...

I have an x201s and it reliably shuts down 'randomly' if I play a 720p movie while it lays on my quilt... Yes, preventing a laptop from being able to breath properly will almost guaranteed lead to a thermal shutdown. I think the question here is who / what is responsible for the sub-par thermal man...

Re: Booting a ThinkPad w/o unlocking a PW protected harddisk?

@andyP Drive passwords are *not* meant as a prevention to boot at all by unauthed users (that's what the other BIOS password is good for). Drive passwords are meant to prevent accessing one specific drive (the one with the password) by unauthed users. Can you tell me how to remove the internal driv...

Re: Booting a ThinkPad w/o unlocking a PW protected harddisk?

The pure presence of a password protected drive attached and recognised in BIOS will provoke the BIOS to request the password before proceeding to boot from any other attached medium. That's the whole point of the password.

If you remove the drive, it wont ask for the password.

Thought I'd just chip in and point out the the T4** and T4**s have completely different batteries. An T410s battery cannot stick out the back because it sits under the palm rest

richk's solution will work if you don't want to restore your main drive. Another option would be to call Lenovo support, explain the problem and ask for a set of discs. Before you do this see my reply to your other post.

I'm going to out myself as well, not for the first time in these boards. As smoking was effectively banned in German Pubs and Restaurants it got interesting to watch peoples reactions. yes i have 5 CDs. the RR CD does not have XP label on it. Is this the disc you were booting from and getting blue screens? If you do decide to go ahead and install W7, make sure you create recovery discs for your current system should you want to revert back. Installing W7 will change the mbr and disable the possibility to recover from the service partition.

Are we to understand from your last post that you have a total of 5 discs? As three of these are clearly for Vista the and one an XP downgrade, what's written on the fifth disc? Is it titled "Recsue and Recovery? If so; look closely on the left side of the disc, hopefully you will see XP-SP2 written...

You should have more than "an cd", you should also have an R&R cd which is the boot cd. Boot from it and eventually you will be asked for the recovery cd.

Do you have an anti-virus software running? You might want to try disabling it. I once spent two days trouble shooting an R&R problem, it turned out that the anti-virus software, in that case G-Data, was stopping R&R from operating properly.

There are different types of recovery disks, those issued by Lenovo / IBM with and without supplemental disks, and those created using R&R.
You need to click on "no", it will then ask for your first recovery disk. Happy recovering

Re: T43 Extend Warranty

Hans, welcome to the forum,

the 41C9432 is an upgrade of the base 3 year bring-in guarantee to 3 year on-site.

Regardless of whether your T43 has on-site or bring-in, you can only extend your warranty by 1 year on-site with the article 10N3144.

Hope this helps

I would stongly suggest you reconsider what you are planning to try. The T500 has a 90W adapter, the W700 a 170W adapter, almost double. I doubt your insurance would cover the fire damage if you went ahead with this.
