Dear all,

I am an old forum member based in Nagoya, Japan. I want a 15.6 inch P50 workstation. I am open to suggestions to other machines too. I am an academic, mainly work with MATLAB and MS-office software and my internet browser remains open with many tabs. I never game though. The machine should have at least 256 GB SSD (more is better), 16 GB RAM, W10 64 Pro installed and activated. Everything should work properly. My budget is US$850 max for the workstation (excluding shipping to Japan and import charges).

Please inform if you have anything to sell either here or via eBay listing. I have seen Lenovo USA outlet selling new T570 at around US$710. Please advise if these are Ok for my purposes (I currently use a P50 and a T480, both I like but never used a T5xx).

I have Verified PayPal confirmed address and I can also pay by credit card. If shipping to Japan is a problem for you, I can arrange a US based parcel forwarder so that you can ship to an address within USA.

Regards

Shoaib

Probably found one that accepted my non-US card, outside this forum, so am no longer looking.

That was quick!

I just purchased a fairly new P50 and been playing with it all week. Great PC for the prices you can get them at today.

Only thing I'm still getting accustomed to, especially coming from older Thinkpads, is the off centered keyboard/mouse pad set up.

Another gripe is while my screen is the 4K UHD I have a hard time playing true 4K video off Youtube. It plays but it stutters and I can almost hear the graphics card sighing.
However to get a proper play I have to step down to 1440p or 3K. From a lot of the online reviews I expected poor video card performance but not this bad. Even if I got the
XEON version with the better graphics card I've seen reviewers on YouTube barely able to play simple games like Fallout smoothly.

Also the screen, even though it is rated at 300+ nits, is the same dim sub 250nit screen that all my Thinkpads since my T41 has had.

Can't really complain since mostly what I do is document work and some video editing. I don't play games or watch lots of Netflix, etc... on my Thinkpads.

Other than that is is fast, quiet and cool.

but overall had I paid the $2000 to $3000 for one of these P50 in 2016 I would have probably returned it. Not worth that price. At sub $1000 it is perfect!

Delmarco,

Can you name some (non-game) thing that you can do well with a P50 having NVIDIA Quadro M2000M but not with a P50 having M1000M, if everything else is the same?

I mostly do MATLAB, document processing, run excel macro, prepare PowerPoint, internet browsing and several PDF eopen.

Also, please see your inbox.
