It is not the first time (or second for that matter) that these wallpapers disappear from IBM website... but they always had ended up appearing again (high demand?). But now with the Lenovo thing I would not be surprise will disappear now for good...
…IBM hasn’t even update them since years ago... but I still think they are the best.

why don't someone just post online for everyone to get....in 1280x768 and 1400x1050 format...

it's much easier than to email one by one like this

Of the IBM WorldMap there are like 3 versions:

-Two of them are simply BMP files. These are good for any screen resolution.
-A third one is an Active Desktop Wallpaper that has for resolutions 800, 1024, 120x, and 1400. I’d also a customized one for 1600x1200. The characteristic of this one is that has several cities times on it so you can see world times real time!. I have even put the cities that I interested on…
This last wallpaper version has also three subcategories, Americas, EMEA and Asia. The difference is what continent would be in the middle of the screen. I have them all so, if no one jumps to host them I would atempt to mail them to all that had requested when I get out from my job.

Hi edelrc,

I would be very interested in the IBM Active Destop Wallpaper for a 1024x768 resolution screen. I use a 14" T42 laptop. My email id is ambigas@streamyx.com.

Thank you for agreeing to send these wallpapers to those who have requested.

Cheers,
Ranjit

Now I am at work...

When I get home, I will send you the 2 versions of BMPs in a zip (around 150kB) and 3 other compressed zip files with each of the original EMEA, AMERICAS and ASIAN versions of the Active Desktop version (around 600kB each) These original versions have for all resolutions from 800x600 till 1400x1024. But you can easily costumize it for 1600x1200 and even change the cities displayed.

I'd love to have an active desktop with a world map, country boundaries, some capitals and the local time, stilish looking, and with a shade moving accross the map as a function of the time, showing where the sun is shining. That would be easy to program... all we would need is an equation for the wavy-shaped shade.

You can cosumize it. To make the map bigger just use any photo editor. Then, I even also centered it better so Americas, Europe, and Asia were on its integrety.
If you reajust the size to 1600x1200 you have to then adjust the cities by html. Same applies if you want to change the ciies and times. If you know HTML, it is just a matter of minutes.
If you can´t figure it out, let me know what 10 cities you want and what continent in the middle and I will try to do it this weekend for you
