Shared video memory
Shared video memory
I suspect the answer to this will be "no", but is there any way of assigning more shared video memory on a T60 with an Intel 945 chipset? Either by tweaking the BIOS or over-riding the integrated graphics and adding a separate video card?

Re: Shared video memory
Unlike some desktop MB's BIOS, there's no way to manually assign the shared video memory. Some have used a RAM disk to cache some critical programs to speed things up. Another option is an advance dock with an external video card. But honestly this is not worth the hassle, cost, and effectively turned your laptop into a desktop. Consider that even the cheapest desktop setup with either Intel's 4000 HD video or AMD's APU is going to blow the T60 out of the water.
Re: Shared video memory
Hmm. Kind of what I suspected. My requirement isn't so much about speed as portability. Specifically, getting one of these to work on a T60:

Rest of the spec comes up fine on the install disk, but it won't install because of the graphics. So basically I have a very expensive mouse!

Re: Shared video memory
Looking at the tech specs for that mouse, it sure requires some GPU power. Even in a laptop that can meet these specs, I'm sure it'll drain the battery pretty quickly.

Re: Shared video memory
The only way to tweak T60 bios is to change the bios. I've been following couple of projects every now and then. This is one of them: http://www.coreboot.org/Supported_Motherboards
As you can see T60 is listed but this is far from easy or riskless.
