Thinkpad T60 Type 2008 would not turn on

#1 Post by teamfortress » Sat Aug 09, 2025 11:30 am

Hello forum,

I'd like to get some help since I have no idea what happened
My ATI graphics Thinkpad T60 stopped turning on and here are the symtomps, I have searched around the internet and no one seems to have my problem. For context, I haven't used the laptop in about 3 days.

1. I press the power button.
2. Laptop doesn't display anything, the lock status icons light up fot a sec then turn off, only battery/AC power status icons stay on, fan spins on for a few secs then stops (top left part is warm where the CPU is), HDD runs yet nothing is displayed.
3. I reseated the RAM, CMOS, the CPU, to no avail.

If you can provide help or know what is happening please let me know, thank you

If a different (known working) CPU or RAM doesn't help, then I'm afraid your motherboard has joined the choir invisible. It has become an ex-motherboard.

This is the way of laptops almost old enough to buy beer: they work fine until one day, they suddenly don't.

Sad, it's been too sudden. Oh well. I can get a new motherboard or another T60. Farewell
