Hello everybody,
My T60's 3 year guarantee just expired and 2 weeks later my screen goes dim.... I promised to behave on this fora
I would like to replace this with an SXGA, but i see people here talking about an inverter replacement to make this possible... I don't see this on the part list, it says here this is the same namely 41W1010. Am I right and can i just replace it with an SXGA? And any tips on wich one (number/ manufacturer) and where to order?
I have looked trough the fora for answers, but didn't find this (there's quite some topics and some going quite offtopic) so honoustly i have been busy trying to repair my beloved T60 for a couple of weeks now and everything has been a drama... boehoe.. Ebay stores sending the wrong inverter, finding out inverter isn't the problem etc. So please be a bit patient with me...
Thank you,
Iannis

This question is coming back over and over again.
There's a tread from yesterday about the exact same thing:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=84180
Shortly, you just need a 14.1" T60 SXGA+ panel, the inverter and cable from XGA will work. The emphasizes here is on "T60". Don't get any other 14.1" SXGA+ panel, not even from other ThinkPad (T4x for example). It has to be a T60 one. Consult the
HMM for exact FRUs.

I managed to put in the new SXGA screen but it starts off black and then slowly starts in the right bottom corner vertically sending up colloms of different light. this then slowly happens also more and more to the left side of the screen. I opened the Thinkpad up again and went looking for a clue... One of the things happened probably while closing was that i broke the connection to the Thinklight, i am slowly getting in a depression now... But does anyone know why the screen does this and if the thinklight has anything to do with it?

Sounds more like the LCD cable is loose at the back of the LCD, or even damaged.
Did you put in an official IBM SXGA+ LCD, one of these?
Samsung 13N7059
BOE-Hydis 13N7061
TMD 13N7063

Thank you for your reply, i think it maybe be the LCD cable so i will buy this one new first and see if it solves the issue. And no.... a new original IBM LCD would have set me back another 340 Euro's, an amount i first of all I don't have and don't think the laptop is worth it. I ordered a screen for the T60 from Screenaid on Ebay and I am just hoping that ws a 100,- euro's well spend.

Like yak already mentioned, it must be a T60 LCD, otherwise you're heading for problems like you have now!

I have returned the screen to Screenaid and let this be a warning too everybody, Screenaid and laptopZ is one company using different names on the internet and i have had a horrible experience with them. Anyone interested i can send you all the correspondence. Pfff...
Yak and RealBlackStuff, thanks for your help so far.
Now i have ordered the original BOE-Hydis screen 13N7061 wich is SXGA and when i installed it, it does go on, but stays black....
I have lost two months of my time, looking at the insides of my beloved T60, i do not want to give up, but i already bought a new original inverter, then an original LCD cable, and now an original LCD and still nothing...... what to do? Do i need to change anything in the Bios or?
Thanks in advance people,
Regards

Just wondering now, are we talking about the T60 in your signature?
Product: ThinkPad T60 1951-FDG [change]
Operating system: All [change]
Original description: T5500(1.66GHz), 1GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1024x768 LCD, Intel 950, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro
There are NO 14.1" T60s on the market with Intel GMA 950 and SXGA+. All those Intel models have an XGA screen.
The GMA 950 is capable of displaying this SXGA+ resolution of 1440x1050 (at least on the T43/R52 15" models), but all T60s with SXGA+ or higher have ATI graphics.
Perhaps you learned an expensive lesson?

RealBlackStuff,
Thank you very much for your helpfull info. Do you also know why this is and why it then at least does not give me a XGA 1024 x 768? Is there a way to work around this, that it will accept this screen?
Thanks

My guess would be that IBM/Lenovo found this "inconvenient" or maybe too cheap.
It's possible though, as shown in this Fujitsu S7110 with Intel GMA950 and 14.1" SXGA+:

This laptop even has a
trackpoint!
14.1" SXGA+ MATT LCD LTD141EM5F CP218070-01 30 PIN
Also available in glossy, it seems.

Again, thank you very much for your comprehensive and clear messages. Much appreciated after the initial shock.
This time I ordered the XGA but from Prime elektronic components on eBay as a kit, the whole thing, screen with panel, hinges antenna's and all. New! Original!!!
And yes, it has been a expensive lesson all together.....
