Ok so here is my question regarding these drives.
I run Ubuntu as my OS of choice.
Does 9.10 support the TRIM function and do the Kingspec drives?
I know performance degrades over time as the cells get partially filled with old data that is not zeroed. So how would a linux user solve this particular issue?
Otherwise things look great in terms of performance.
The 4200RPM drive I have now doesn't bother me too much in terms of its speed or occasional clicking, it is the capacity which gets me. Luckily my machine has an SD slot so I am using that with a 4GB SDHC card to complement my storage. Still 44GB of total storage isn't very much at all.

Blank NAND flash is field of 1111s, not 0000s. If there is a secure erase utility for linux that allow you to program a pattern, just make a 1111 data pattern.Temetka wrote:....I know performance degrades over time as the cells get partially filled with old data that is not zeroed.
