LCD backlight is very inconsistant. Pleas Help!
LCD backlight is very inconsistant. Pleas Help!
Ok so i have gone through the process of replacing the lcd screen on my X60s and I have run into a problem. Upon attaching the new screen to the existing orange ribbon cable and power cable, the backlight came on just as it should. After i had put the laptop completely back together, the screen still displayed what it should, however there was no backlight. So I took it back apart to check the connections and make sure they were secure, and they were. So i replaced the orange ribbon cable, lcd inverter, and the bluetooth card to see if that made any difference. I got the same results with the new hardware i just installed. However, sometimes if I wiggle the orange ribbon cable just right, the Backlight will come on and stay on even if i removed the orange ribbon cable. However, when i reboot the laptop, not touching or changing anything, the backlight will not come back on after the reboot. I have tried everything i can think of to try to fix it. Any suggestions??
Thanks
Thanks

I've run into a similar problem with my X60s as well. Having taken it apart and put it back together many times because of a bluetooth issue. The backlight is attached to the inverter, not the orange ribbon cable, although the ribbon cable supplies power to the inverter by way of its connnection on the left end. Make sure the white back light connector on the right ( with the 2 wires) is pushed is as far as it will go. Sometimes it seems like it's pushed home but it's not. Then be sure the multi connector on the left has also snapped on properly. There is a small ground loop that should slide in under the hold screw on the left, I'm not sure what it does but it should be there. Finally make sure the main ribbon connector on the top of the LCD is pushed in as far as possible.
Having done all this I sometimes find the backlight doesn't always light up first time. So I turn off the laptop, take off the bezel which usually does the job, then I re- install the bezel (carefully) with the screen on.
By the way if you want to sell your original cable let me know because I could use it.

Thanks a lot! I will try these steps later today and let you know how it went. I have one question. By bezel do you mean the outer protective part of the case that houses the screen? As far as the orange multi connector cable goes, I got a new one because i sheared the ground off some how that screws down : ( sorry
Re: LCD backlight is very inconsistant. Pleas Help!
That piece is for mechanical retention, not electrical ground. The cable is fully functional even absent that screw.jobo1190 wrote:...i sheared the ground off some how that screws down ...

Oh thanks for the clarification. You just saved me buying another cable. Still no luck getting the backlight to come on tho : (

I think you killed Fuse F3 on the Systemboard.
I've already done the SXGA-Mod on my X61 and later I decided to change the Rear Cover LCD Housing.
I forget to remove the Batterypack when mounting the LCD Front Cover Frame. And something went wrong.
The CCFL did not start. So I changed the complete LCD Unit from my X60s, no CCFL start. That information helped me to locate the problem.
You can fin F3 on the Systemboard on left side of the Dispaly Cable Connector. It's under the plastic.

The foto ist stolen from this thread: http://www.thinkpad-forum.de/thinkpad-h ... ng-defekt/ , but I think it's o.k. and I know tcone in real life...
Just check all the fuses around the connector with a multimeter and write which has gone.
Regards Klaus
P.S.: I'm sorry for my bad english!
Yes and please make a good foto from that area of systemboard without plastic...

@admins: O.k. I'll never do that again!
@jobo1190: Some other guys seem to have the same problems...

You don't have to remove the fuse , thats not necessary. Just solder the new one on top.

First off, thanks for your rapid response times and all of your expertise, but I bridged the F3 fuse with a silver conductive adhesive pen and that did not fix the problem. I covered the entire fuse, terminal to terminal, with the silver conductive agent. Do i have to do it on the reverse side of the motherboard as well? Or is there a different solution to my problem? thanks
