I just bought an X220 i7 Tablet to go alongside my X220 laptop. the IPS screen is fabulous, but has a few light scratches from rubbing on the keys for many years. like smudgy dotted lines all across.
i've seen videos of people cleaning scratches out of watches or eye glasses using metal polish. anyone have any thoughts on doing that to get my new project back to its imperious best?

NO!!
It is most likely polycarbonate which will be destroyed by metal polish UNLESS it is the Gorilla Glass version and you can confirm that 110%.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Don't try to polish it. What you'll end up with are bright polished spots that'll look much worse. The screen is likely matte, so polishing it would create glossy spots like right after wiping with water. Try taking some rubbing (clean) alcohol and cleaning it up a bit with a soft microfiber towel or soft unscented kleenex.

If your screen has thin, well-defined scratches, then you can usually take them out with a pencil eraser.
But if you have smudges, then I don't think that there is anything that you can do except replace the screen.
