Restored T400 - any historical value?

#1 Post by solidpro » Sat Jan 28, 2023 11:13 am

Hi Everyone

I was given a T400 without a HDD. I put a cheap SSD in it, restored back to factory. It's a nice 7-row widescreen Win7 machine but I don't really have any use for it. I collect IBM thinkpads but don't really keep anything Lenovo unless it was on the changeover period where things were branded both Lenovo and IBM.... I don't know much about the T400 - is it a decent machine and should I keep 1 for the collection, or stick it on ebay?

cheers

It may have appeal to the Libreboot people. Otherwise it's unremarkable.

Keyboards between the T60/T61/Z60/Z61/T400/T500/W500/X200 are interchangeable.
T400 was one of the last 16:10 models with classic 7-row keyboard.
Nothing to write home about really.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

Having a couple T400's and R400's they're both cool machines. I like to do them up with an OS or two on an older SSD, load those up with old games and give them to friends. If you have somebody in your life who is getting into computers it's a great gift idea.

The only collectible T400 is the one with the 680 nit outdoor display. Other than that not much reason to specifically own or use one.

I am trying for years to restore one that came to me with the usual defect: faulty lcd cable blew the mb.
Once found both lcd cable and mb but they were faulty too.
It is a cool machine and 16:10 panels are the best for me.
