How to network whitelist Thinkpad w701 bios and What network card to use?

#1 Post by DKG » Fri Nov 29, 2024 5:04 pm

Hello everyone, I’m a bit new, but I was wondering, how I could get a whitelist bios for the Thinkpad w701 to get a new better network card, and which one I should use, thanks.

(I don’t worry about budget, I just want the absolute best of the best, highest quality)

Welcome to the Forum.

Go here and scroll to the bottom for the download you want.
(Lenovo_W701_1.30_6KET60WW-6kuj12us_nWL_.rar).

Then get an AXE3000H (a.k.a. MPE-AXE3000H), which is a MiniPCIe version of the Intel AX210.
These cards have wifi-6E and Bluetooth 5.2 or 5.3.
Take a good look at the various pictures and descriptions, and ask seller for details if necessary, to make sure you get the E-version (not the AX3000H [without the E], which is the older AX200).

Tysm, also how should I install it? And couldn’t I just use the normal card, instead of the mPCIE

Mini PCIe is the normal card for the W701.

Most current WiFi cards are M.2 which is physically incompatible with MiniPCIe, with a smaller antenna connector too. I'll post a side-by-side comparison photo when I find a good one.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

The W701 comes standard with some slow b/g/n wifi card.
Remember this from your first post?

The AXE3000H IS the absolute best of the best, highest quality that will work in that W701.
Oh, and when you put this card in, don't forget to first remove the original W701 Bluetooth module.
