W520 repair, Is it worth the investment?

Hi all,

So, it looks like the W520 needs a new motherboard. It has a 04w2029 mb. I found a 042028 mb on Ebay for $58. The W520 has a 2720QM Cpu and a 256GB SSD, 12GB RAM, 1920X1080 . I I have a T450S that is fine for most stuff but want to buy a newer P series to run Sketch UP a bit easier and smoother than the W520. So, I guess I will sell the W520, probably not worth much more than the MB costs. Is it worth the investment? Will the used MB die too? I hate to toss the W520. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Bruce

Since I'm a big fan of the W520 and T520 I would take a chance on a replacement MB.

Thanks for the input. It will also need a battery.

I replaced the MB. It does not lock up anymore but have the issue I posted about Event ID 137.

Did you upgrade the BIOS on your new Thinkpad?

Regarding if it's worth it... well, do they make newer laptops with decent keyboard? I haven't seen one besides the ThinkPad Retro.
