Website for custom case building?

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Sun Aug 24, 2025 5:13 pm

Is there a website that you can buy parts for a case? Not like buying a motherboard, PSU, Fans and such. But a back bracket for a case, side panel doors, front face plates and such. I was wanting to unrivet my current case back panel "motherboard I/O, PCI slots, PSU open slot and fan vent" and install a different back for dual fans. At the end of the day the back plate is a punch steel that is rivet to the frame of the case.

I don't know if this is a thing as we're doing 3D printing
Not my cases but use for reference: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-old-p ... archtype=0

I was wanting to build my own PC and not just buy an empty case from the major brands.

This is a cool idea, I like the idea of modular cases quite a bit now that you have put it in my head.

Unfortunately I don't know of any. A lot of older PC cases were pretty commonly rebadged and resold under different names with slight variations, so with enough guesswork and trial and error, you probably could pop rivet your way into a bespoke retro case.

For modern fare? I don't personally know of any, but my case is a secondhand Fractal Define R4 that I have no intention of "upgrading" anytime soon.

Surely there has to be at least one customizable case system out there, but I'm not aware of any pc case marketplaces. I'd wager your best bet is eBay.

Do you know if there were variants of your case? What case do you have? If it's a fairly standard tower design, you might be able to slot in another with minimal modifications, or maybe even modify the one you have now to suit.

T520 (Well it's handy to have a backup system)
R40 (Light Retro Gaming, I wanted something with a 4:3 screen!)
Inevitably more to come.

For example. Look at a Thermaltake Versa H21 or H22 and then a Corsair Carbide 100R
Then a Thermaltake Versa H25 over a Fractal Design Focus G
Minus the front panels they all use the same case.
and so on with the multiple companies that sell empty cases. It seems all these companies use the same one company that makes the case frames and side panels and the case seller uses their own front panel design with logo.

Yeah, I figure there's many cases that are whitelabeled to some extent, and you could swap parts, your best bet, honestly, is probably to set up saved searches for cases that have what you want on eBay/Craigslist/FB Marketplace and find one in salvageable condition?

Very location dependant, unfortunately.

The bad part is most cases today and probably forward are going toward the fishtank case and the other case what I call the gumball machine or claw machine case.

For me I like the professional black tower look with the honeycomb venting. https://www.ebay.com/itm/203830237615

That is why I was looking for a Thermaltake Versa H26 as it seems to be the last case with drive bay slots. But that case seems to be a Japanese market only case. I picked up a Thermaltake V100 and probably is going to be the last old style case to get. It is a nice case if looking for that old black professional tower look. The bad part is that it doesn't have good ventilation and that why I wanted the H26 over the V100.
