I have the correct keyboard, has the led I can see. I assumed it was plug and play FN/Space bar. However this only lights the light on the screen lid. Suggestions?
It is not possible. Laptops with backlight enabled keyboard has a separate connector on the motherboard to power the LED.
Anyone have a picture of the Mobo with the additional connector?
Thanks
Ron

There is no separate backlight connector.
What is the P/N or FRU of your keyboard?
What do you see on the KB bottom, all metal or a black foil?
Backlit foil:

NON-backlit metal:

Spacebar light-icon 'shines' towards you: NON-backlit KB.
Spacebar light-icon 'shines' towards screen: backlit KB.

I have the correct keyboard, can see the leds. It does have an extra tiny connector on it, over the key board I took off. Have neither with me at the moment, but Im thinking it was silver backed tape/sticker. WAS NOT bare metal like Im used to on the T30's forward. Il lay my hands on it and double check.

Have a look at the 2nd pic here:

The second cable you think you are seeing could only be the cable to the red nub (under that metal square), which probably has come loose on your KB.
There is NO 'second cable' on those keyboards!

RBS is correct. Im an idiot. The correct keyboard has a black backing, and it does work on Laptops NOT originally equipped with back lights.
