Which HDD size (2.5" or 1.8") in X60s?

Are all X60 models (both standard X60 and "slim" X60s) going to be fitted with a 2.5" HDD, or will the X60s feature a 1.8" HDD? If so, would that be the same Hitachi found in the X4x, or the Toshiba with a ZIF connector?

If the X60s has a 2.5" HDD, I'm just wondering how they managed to make it slimmer/lighter than the standard X60.

From what I read here and on other sites they will both spot a 2.5" disk.
How to make it slimmer? Less cooling I guess.

Btw... as an X3x series owner... why do you have 2GB?
I had the option to upgrade to 1gb for 20 euro's but not did it..

Why you ask? Do i need it for basic text editing? no... so why do you have 2gb in your X31?

Sometimes people run specialized apps that can chew up lots of memory. I run 1GB in my X30 so that I can comfortably install Oracle's database software. I make part of my living writing about Oracle, and having a working copy at hand when I travel is well worth the cost of the memory.

On my desktop here at home I run Oracle on Linux on VMWare on Windows. 2GB lets me do that comfortably. I would love to move that software stack to a notebook. With that in mind, the X60's support for 3GB has certainly caught my eye.

Since the S version will only use a singlecore chip.

Where do you have this information from?

On the Lenovo site it says that BOTH the x60 and x60s will feature Duo cpu's on some models (ref the model compatison page)

Since the Japanese version of the X60s is going to be lighter than that for the rest of the world, I guess it's possible that the Japanese version uses the 1.8" drive whereas the rest of the world uses the 2.5" drive.

Didn't look so on IBM's web site, where the only X60 for sale is an "s" and appears to feature a dual core chip.

Though I have no need for raw power (so it doesn't bother me to run at 600 MHz instead of 1.4 GHz), I tend to have lots of applications open at the same time. For this, having more RAM makes a difference. Maybe 2 GB is overkill and 1 GB would be enough, but who cares: it's my money and I'm entitled to spend it the way I deem appropriate.

Erm yes... I would like to come back on the fact I said there will be no Dual core X60s models... My information was from before the news articles, so It was outdated... sorry

But I have seen that both X60 versions (at least the US / EU versions) have 2.5" harddisks...

So no 1.8" here (would not fit correctly anyway, since the 1.8" ibm uses are half as short as an 2.5") maybe the Asian market will get 1.8" hdd;s (like suggested) but if they are going to do this they will have to adapt the tray and harddiskslot.

Anyway... I am going to bed... its 1:00 here

Well, in theory, you should be able to put a 1.8" *Hitachi* drive in a European X60 without any adapter, since it uses the same connector. Just like you can put a 2.5" HDD in an X40/41 (if you don't mind it sticking out).
Positioning may be tricky, since the Hitachi 1.8" drive is so much shorter than a standard 2.5" drive, same with extracting it.

that’s what I am saying, they have the same interface, but it will not fit correctly, and thus it will not be fastened securely, and it will have space to move in, thus creating a large risk for a disk crash.

So they will have to adapt the bay with a larger cushion or larger harddistray.

1.8 HD
and a superlight ??? Ultralight ??? LCD display

Japanese market loves the 1.8 HD for power and usage time consideration.
I guess they are patient to wait for application launching.

AFAIK Japanese 1.8" HDD X60s has same architecture as 2.5" HDD X60s.

They use foam (or something like that) to enwrap the HDD and make 1.8" as large as 2.5" to fill in the slot. Foam is light and will give more protect to HDD.
