Sticker residue removal on rubberizes case
Sticker residue removal on rubberizes case
I have read a lot about removing the Intel and Windoze stickers, but not the rubberized case. I have 2" x 4" spot on my case with sticker residue. Probably a corporate tag or something. I really don't want to destry the rubber. Is there a "tried and true" method of removal? I read Windex or Alchohol works well for cleaning it.
There's always WD-40
There's always WD-40 . . . it gets decal/sticker residue off hard plastic parts, like on your older-but-gooder (?) H-P LaserJets, with very good results.
In theory, WD-40 should not harm the rubberization. Alcohol may be rough on the rubberization...at least it was back in the '80's, on the rubber parts of cassette players, and so on.
I have not tried either on the rubber-ized Titanium case. I defer commentary on that to other more seasoned ThinkPad-ewans around here.

Re: Sticker residue removal on rubberizes case
I read somewhere that there are two types of Goo-Gone. One is citrus based and the other is something else. I THINK the writer recommended using the citrus version but I'm not sure. I think the author said the other type may leave a mark.

I use this stuff from Wal-Mart... de-solv-it...
http://www.orange-sol.com/household/index.html
I have used it on every surface I can think of, including the rubberized coating on my ThinkPad 760's & 701C
It is also citrus based.
Here is one i just did to image for this post

the "ghosting" left behind is just that, years of wear around the label, you can still VERY faintly (the photo makes it stand out) see where the label was, it is not residue, just a color difference. Again, it is ALMOST invisible to my eyes. pictures can't do it justice, but... http://conradshome.com/thinkpad/images/ ... emoved.jpg

Re: Sticker residue removal on rubberizes case
I was the one recommending Goo Gone with Citrus Power.
Used it everywhere on any surface of the Thinkpad, even the LCD.
Both plastic and rubberized cases are cleaned without leaving any residue or traces.
Apparently there is a special sticker-removal version out: Goo Gone Sticker Lifter http://www.googone.com/GG-Browse-Produc ... Lifter-2oz
Since I bought 1/2 gallon of the regular stuff, I haven't tried the Sticker Lifter yet.
Anybody use this yet?

A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works wonders on the T-series lids.

Re: Sticker residue removal on rubberizes case
You used it on the LCD? I googled last night, er, waaaay early this morning when i made my post and a lot of people reported that Goo Gone leaves a residue. They use GG to remove sticker residue and then use isopropyl alcohol to remove what GG leaves behind. More than one person said GG left a badness on their LCD.
I recall someone using GG all over their TP. I don't recall if they said it left a shine not originally found on a TP.
I remember one user using Armorall which left an overall darker, shinier sheen.
I need to remove sticers from a T41, X60s and R60.

Huh...you *DO NOT* use Goo Gone on the LCD.
It works very well on the lid, but NOT on the screen...

Re: Sticker residue removal on rubberizes case
Yes I do.
I got several laptop over time that had a smoker as a previous owner.
Goo Gone was the only stuff that completely removed the smelly film of tar/nicotine.
Of course I used Scott's Liquid Gold Screen Clean afterwards to 'finish' the LCD.
