T23 making noise at power on and off
T23 making noise at power on and off
My recently acquired T23 makes a puffing noise that sounds like an old TV would when you switch channels. This happens during power on, right before the splash screen comes on and at power off, just before the screen goes dark. Does anybody know what is causing this, whether or not it's of any consequences, and how to fix it?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I am slightly familar with the "puffing" sound you describe (see .sig). I'd equate it to more of a "thumping" noise. It appears to come from the speakers and I've tried changing a couple of options in BIOS and turning the system volume down and muting it, but it still makes the sound. I think that all of my systems do it, but I can't say for sure. Some are louder than others but I've never tried correlating it with BIOS versions, BIOS settings, etc. My guess would be that it's a matter of how all of the power supplies are being turned on/off and that it's really nothing to be concerned about. As far as fixing it goes, if you want a totally silent system then I would suppose you could remove the speaker assembly.

Have you checked for snakes?ambientscape wrote:I'm having this sound while start up and as well as hissing sound from the LCD.
Is the sound a single frequency like a high-pitched whistle or is it more like a waterfall? The inverter board contains an oscillator which can in some cases, make a high frequency whistle. You could try re-seating the inverter board and making sure that all of the connections are clean. If that doesn't work, swap out the inverter board and see if that fixes the noise problem. I don't think it is possible for the backlight itself to make any noise.

Yeah yeah yeah!! High-pitched whistle is much more like it to describe the situation I'm having. Whenever I lowere down the brightness setting the sound will get louder and eventually dissapear if I set it to the MAX. I will try your idea......rkawakami wrote:Have you checked for snakes?ambientscape wrote:I'm having this sound while start up and as well as hissing sound from the LCD.
