Anyone been able to figure out a smooth way to do this? When I undock my computer hangs or puts itself to sleep because the lid is closed.
I can see the undock button from the shutdown menu though.
Take a look at our

Dock/Undock Windows 7
Re: Dock/Undock Windows 7
I always have put my docked Thinkpads to sleep prior to undocking. It has never failed to work no matter what the OS is. I don't particularly trust any other method. You can try easyeject for Windows 7. Don't know if it exists for an X4X machine though...I doubt it.
Re: Dock/Undock Windows 7
As usual, you're right. Putting it to sleep before undocking or docking seems to be the best method.
Re: Dock/Undock Windows 7
My opinion is quite opposite. I always just rip-n-go, and found it to cause fewer problems than any other method. Logically, I would think that putting the PC to sleep might actually cause more problems, since it wakes up with a different configuration than it went to sleep with.
If rip-n-go causes problems (such as lockups/bluescreens) you either have bad or improperly installed drivers, or use devices which are not compatible with "hot undocking", such as external GPUs in the big docks.
I also always set all my laptops to do nothing when the lid is closed.
