New x120e
Re: New x120e
It seems they were pretty impressed with it. It would be great if AMD offered something other than price as their best feature.

Has there been any news on the release date of the x120e?

It's looking like February, but it gets here when it gets here.

they did change the finish, they're calling it a mossy black rubberized finish. gotta be better than the glossy edge finish.
the specs on that 350 processor seem pretty decent.

That's for the new ThinkPad Edge E-series. The new X120e may not get the same finish. From the pics I've seen of the X120e, the case finish looks the same as the old X100e.topmahof wrote:http://www.lenovoblogs.com/designmatter ... rs-chrome/

after i look carefully. it will be better if the battery thicker in design. so that it will tilt up the keyboard. Instead of pop out from the machine.
something like x200 series.

Re: New x120e
If I can get the X120e for $500 or the X201i for $700, I'm going with the X201i, but I don't know about pricing in Singapore. The X120e is an idea right now. Historically, AMD has issues with heat. Until I see some reviews or user accounts that says it's changed, I'm going to assume they're still the same. I hope they fix it and give Intel some serious competition. Performance wise I don't think mobile users need a ton of power. Either will do. The fact I can do the AFFS mod on the X201 also makes it a much more compelling offering to me unless I was on a really right budget.

Re: New x120e
kaede, one of the reasons I prefer my X100e to my maxed-out X201 is that it's NOT wedge-shaped, so it's easier to slip into my professional bag. It's substantially smaller, even if not much lighter, in part because of its flatness.
This new machine looks friggin' awesome. I haven't had any heat issues with my x100e, but my belief is that there is some variability with this model depending perhaps on heatsink thermal paste etc. (which happens with most/all models) but even more depending on the use model. If you use the graphics card intensively, the machine may get pretty hot; I don't do that. I use it for work.
I'm getting 4.5-5 hours on a charge with the six-cell battery and a cheap SSD. I'm wondering what the real runtimes of the x120e will be for someone doing office-type work. I've seen misreports of the x100e's battery life being no better than 3 hours all over the web, but it seems to be just parrots talking.
The x100e is, in my book, still a great value: the smallest work device to offer the Thinkpad typing experience (and actually the best-ever typing experience IMO) and better-than-netbook performance, at netbook-range pricing. The x120e looks like it will improve on that substantially.
I would like it if the x120e case were even slimmer and had the rubberized coating, but it does look exactly like the x100e chassis to me. It's good enough. The impact plastic used on the x100e is rugged, even though it doesn't feel as nice.

That's hard to say until it comes out. The Air probably has a better screen and is faster for general usage, but is considerably more expensive.

Re: New x120e
They're essentially the same, unless you configure the x201 with a 9-cell battery, in which case it's noticeably much heavier.

Sounds like a huge improvement over the X100e. Finally, a Thinkpad that I *might* buy two to three years from now!Tomy B. wrote:X120e reviewed!

Re: New x120e
Looks like it will be a winner. It appears that Lenovo has largely beaten the heat and low battery life issues present in the X100e while increasing performance all around...plus an HDMI port. Nice!
Re: New x120e
@ pianowizard: next year AMD should have Krishna platform (28 nm) which have up to four Bobcat cores (two in Zacate) and twice the GPU power compared to current HD 6310 in Zacate (40 nm).
BTW: Krishna should be powering next XBox

Re: New x120e
It's a good review of the X120e, but not fair for all X100e models. The later models with dual core chips were much quicker, cooler and had longer battery life. They should have called the dual core X100e's an X110e, since now they are just grouped with the slow and hot original X100e.
The reviewer was looking to build a good comeback story, not paint a historially accurate picture.

Sorry to kinda go off topic but I saw Pianowizard's notebook list and couldn't resist...
PW I've noticed you have a Panasonic toughbook Y series..
Can u elaborate on how it compares to thinkpad? since u have many thinkpads before ..the screen quality panasonic uses? keyboard, upgradeablity?...
I am window shopping and the Panasonic let'snote J9 ( or this week the J10) --imported --looks pretty amazing or the toughbook S9 ..
can't find any decent reviews or comments... screen, keyboard, built quality ect ect..Vs. thinkpads...
since Panasonic notebooks are not too well known in the US other than in police cars..
the Panasonic J9/ J10 is pretty much a thick 10 inch netbook size with i5/i7 ...vs Lenovo x120
the price range is completely opposite spectrum i know..
just trying to get some understanding on Panasonic Toughbooks..compare to thinkpads..since thoughbooks are so darn expensive...
thanks for any info...
