AC WiFi card to X230 (with modified BIOS flash)
AC WiFi card to X230 (with modified BIOS flash)
Hello Guys,
I'd like to add AC WiFi card into my X230 (if possible).
Where can I found "modified" BIOS for this machine?
Thanks for the help in advance!
Regards,
Chris

err... think that modified (unofficial) BIOS cannot be discussed on this Thinkpads.com forum, as per Forum Rules.

Yes, you can discuss this, but nobody has been able (yet) to remove the whitelist since T/W/Xx30 series.
If someone could modify the proper coding, you'd still need a more complicated SPI-flasher to apply such a mod.
Complex, to say the least.
So for now, fugeddit!

Re: AC WiFi card to X230 (with modified BIOS flash)
FWIW, I recently acquired an Alfa AWUS1900 802.11ac 1900 Mbps Dual band 2.4/5 Ghz Wi-Fi USB Adapter for my x230 Tablet. Yes, it's an external adapter, but it works very well and might be an alternative solution for you. I just disable the internal Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 card and use the Alfa adapter, which uses USB 3.0.

If you don't mind opening up your laptop and flashing using a Raspberry Pi, you can flash coreboot onto the machine and then use whatever WLAN card you'd like. It's pretty simple to do if you're the careful, follows-instructions sort.

That doesn't work, as nobody can (yet) remove the X240 wifi whitelist.
You'll have to stick with official Lenovo-approved wifi cards.

I removed whitelist and unlocked advanced menu. New wife card DW1560 working fine in Mac OS but with windows 10 I have only Bluetooth working, WiFi doesn’t have signal!

Re: AC WiFi card to X230 (with modified BIOS flash)
That sounds great, but are you sure?
Perhaps you could post a link to your modded BIOS or EC, with instructions how to apply it?
Linux (and probably MacOS) do not check for any whitelists, but Windows definitely does!
And while I have your attention:
Can you also remove (or bypass) the LCD/display whitelist from the X240 BIOS?
That would be even more awesome!
