Random vertical lines on display

#1 Post by brucehe » Tue Sep 25, 2018 7:39 am

This is on a T400 with LED backlight and integrated Intel graphics (no Nvidia gpu). Problem started with a vertical red line on the display a day after replacing keyboard. Replaced LCD with new. When first assembled and tried, display was all good, then restarted and a series of vertical lines appeared. Reseated LED driver card and resassembled and all was fine again. Put machine together and was good for a day with no lines. Then randomly on boot up a series of lines appeared. Rebooted and they were gone. Wiggled and twisted things but no lines appeared. Not sure how, when or if it will happen again?

Ideas? Bad lcd cable? graphics problem on system board? If I plug an exterior monitor in when the lines appear will that be a valid test for system board problem?

Thanks again for any assistance.

Check cable, then display, then board

Pics please.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

LCD is brand new. Pics can happen if the problem occurs again.

Return it and get another one, might've been caused during shipping. If the problem still occurs then the LCD cable or motherboard might be the problem
