Updating bios serial number on ThinkCentre

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Sat Sep 21, 2024 2:24 am

I have a Lenovo ThinkCentre A70z AIO. It is in good clean condition and looks to have the max RAM installed "4GB" From what the Lenovo and other sites say, thought it be 8GB but I guess not. It has a Core 2 Duo cpu. I updated the bios to the latest off the Lenovo site. After this if going into the bios or System information. Serial number is marked "Invalid" and System SKU "To Be Filled By O.E.M." Unlike on ThinkPads bios updates I don't see change / update model serial numbers. The bios update was done in Windows desktop with update bios from desktop and after completing, restarted like normal.

I looked online how to get the bios to restore its model number and serial and only found you need to download a software called Lenovo Golden Key U1 Tool. It requires to sign into a Lenovo account to download and don't have one or want to make an account to download a program. Is there another way to update the bios serial and model. The sticker is on the side of the machine panel

thanks for this post

this is quite an old version (2015, v1.08) and doesn't work for my ThinkPad P14s gen 2 (2021). I've tried the v1.11 and still could not change the "name" to ThinkPad P14s Gen 2 so am getting error 2202

It works for adding the serial numbers but I cannot clear 2202 :(
